Pudding steamers
Aside from traditional pudding basins for steamed puddings, the Victorians invented some patent steamers.
The Gourmet Pudding Boiler was a stoneware bowl with a snug fitting lid with a wire handle for safe lifting and lowering. But Grimwades went a step further with another of their patented ironstone products by inventing the Quick Cooker with a central funnel and lid which made sure the centre was cooked through.
The whole bowl and lid is covered with Grimwades advertsing and instructions for the perfect pudding ! A beautiful centrepiece for any traditional kitchen as well as being practical.
Other lidded moulds were in tin in a variety of shapes: From standard basins to fluted ones and elongated ones for roly polies.
Simple fluted stoneware moulds were eventually replaced by tough Pyrex glass ones.
