Aluminium saucepans
Although aluminium cookware appears to have first been used in the late Victoran times, it wasn't until the twenties that it became more popular.
And given that saucepans would last generations and be handed down, many families were using copper and cast iron well into the thirties.
Sheet aluminium gives the best heat conductivity, although heavy cast aluminium gave its owners the reassurance of quality and logevity.
Familiar brands of the first half of the twntist century were Pyramid, Swan, Solar and Crown Merton.
By the fifties and early sixties, the steel or Bakerlite handles from earlier decades were being replaced by colourful plastic ones in red, blue or yellow.
