Fish kettles & ham boilers
We just love these vintage fish kettles or ham boilers.
Long straight ones are for salmon, and the oval ones can be used for fish like turbot or for hams.
The earliest ones were made from copper or tin, with the best houses using copper. But by the earlier 20th century other alternatives were availablle. Enamel and cast aluminium were solid and long-lasting and although aluminium had been available since the twenties, it seemed to take until the post war era for it to be used for fish kettles.
