Egg poachers
Egg poaching seems to have come back into vogue, with fewer breakfast eggs being fried. The little greased cups are so much easier to use than trying to achieve the perfect poached egg by dropping it into a pan of simmering water.
Aluminium seems to be the metal of choice for egg poachers with early ones turning up in the thirties. However, like so many aluminum pans during the second world war, some were melted down for use in the war effort. Altogether more rare were some heavy duty ones made from cast aluminium.
Most egg poachers were single or double ones, but by the sixties some manufacturers were beginning to manufacture family-sized ones holding cups for four.
