Scoops

We associate scoops with shoveling flour from flour bins and onto scales or bowls for bread making or baking. Most have their origins in farming when the largest were used for grain.

In fact - according to the Oxford English Dictionary - their origins were Middle England and originally a utensil for pouring liquids.

Farming and rural communities would have carved their scoops out of a single piece of wood, whilst the Georgian cooks on country estates would have used copper. Victorian and Edwardian sweet shop owners would have weighed out their candy with a brass scoop with a wooden handle.

Galvanised and cast aluminium scoops make a great addition to an industrial-style kitchen.

Scoops for ice cream and mashed potato can be found here. And if you need a scoop with measures, you'll find them here.
