Milk jugs

The milk jug is a true staple of the vintage kitchen. And not just for milk either ! A Victorian or Edwardian kitchen would have used them for storing just about any liquid from custard to gravy. In Upstairs Downstairs, they could always been seen on the table in the servants' hall.

Made from sturdy earthenware most were either tankard-shaped or hooped. Some may have been pot-bellied Most people would use a 1pt or 1 1/2pt jug, but some would be as small as 1/4pt or 1/2pt. The largest tankard jug we've seen was a very solid 4 pints !

More colourful milk jugs can be found in our Kitchenware and Tableware ranges. And they make great vases, too.
