Fish slices
Perfect flipping is an art. Just how many of us struggle to get things out of a frying pan, or worse still, haven't mastered flipping a pancake. Our lack of prowess in that department meant that a succession of manufacturers were ever hunting for the perfect flipper or fish slice.
Victorian ones looked like giant tin or enamel fish knives, whilst by the 1920s designers were experimenting with wire or punched tin. They played with the width, and whether the flipper should be flat or curved. One designer even invented a lever-operated one which expanded into a fan of three for food needing extra support.
Skyline introduced the design that we're familiar with these days, although we swear by their double-sized vintage Flipper Lifter fish slice !
