Pressed glass
The Victorian invention of pressed glass brought decorative glass within the reach of the masses. Items that were once only made in cut glass could be moulded and produced cheaply.
As a result, decorative glass tableware found its way onto the kitchen tables of the early part of the twentieth century. Particularly popular were egg cups, butter and cheese dishes. But most common were lemon squeezers.
Some factories also produced merchandise in colours such as blue, pink and green - particularly during the art deco period. One popular design was Spiders Web with bowls and celery vases shaped like webs.
