Easter egg moulds
Modern symbols of Easter, such as the egg and the bunny, have their origins in paganism. Rabbits were the most potent symbol of fertility and the egg, the start of all life, was often thought to have magical powers.
The first chocolate Easter eggs were made in Europe in the early 19th Century with France and Germany taking the lead with plain, smooth moulds. By the end of the century Cadburys had started making dark chocolate eggs filled with dragees. And it was during this time that the crackle - or crocodile - mould was developed in Germany which helped disguise the imperfections often found in the smooth eggs.
But it was the launch of Cadburys milk chocolate in 1905 that made Easter eggs so popular and much easier to make as the chocolate poured much more easily.
Now you can make the Easter eggs of your choice with our variety of moulds, big and small.
