Trivets & stands
Trivets and stands were needed to keep all the pots and pans close to the fire or range so that water and food could be kept hot.
A footman could accomodate the dripping pan under a spit or hold the hot water can. Most were wrought iron, although ornate ones could be found in brass.
Trivets come in all shapes and designs, many on tripod legs with pierced metal work. Made from cast iron or brass they would accomodate smaller pots and pans. Some had fire bars so that they could be attached to the fire or the range. Other would be designed to slot directtly into the top of range.
Wrought iron gridirons were designed to be held over a fire or range for grilling meat.
