Vegetable racks & baskets
Our Victorian and Edwardian ancestors would have probably stored their vegetables in the wooden crates or trugs they were collected or delivered in.
The vegetable rack seems to be a creation of the 20th century and early ones were made from galvanised wire. By the forties Tala, Worcesterware and others were beginning to introduce colour-sprayed tin or aluminum racks to their kitchen ranges.
And by the fifties wire-covered plastic was the most fashionable with the on-trend colours of red, yellow and pale blue. Hanging painted wire baskets - some hanging in a series of graduated baskets - became popular in the sixties.
